Nellis Air Force Base opened in 1941 as Las Vegas Army Airfield and trained more than 45,000 B-17 gunners in World War II. Named on April 30, 1950 for Lt. William Harrell Nellis, it’s home to the USAF Warfare Center and the Thunderbirds.
About 9,500 military and civilian personnel work at Nellis. On-base housing needs base access, and much of the move-out demand comes from off-base rentals in North Las Vegas and nearby towns.
